Kouchibouguac National Park
was set aside in 1969 as part of our national
park system to preserve a representative sample
of the Appalachian Geographical region, an example
of outstanding Canadian landscape
and one of the last vestiges of a maritime lowland
system. Located in southeastern New Brunswick,
about 100 kilometres north of Moncton, it protects
238 square kilometres of habitat for
plants and wildlife
along the shores of Kouchibouguac River, at the
northern end of Northumberland Strait. Aboriginal
people,
Acadians and English populations are representative
of the parks cultural heritage.
